    My T140 breathed through the primary chain case via 3 small holes in the left hand case and no crank seal, allegedly to help the drive side main bearing. Regarding the Lack of top gear I had a genuine Triumph workshop manual and indexed the Quadrant as shown in the book, and had 4 gears on upshift but 5 on changing down as the photo that shows you how to index it was upside down. I was stumped for ages until a mate pointed it out.

    T140 in a slimline? I had one like that. The biggest issue was unless you kept the rear chain really tight on overrun it would hit the swinging arm pivot. I loved it My partner tolerated it until she got pregnant. so I had to buy a car. To my eternal shame It was an Allegro.

    I’m a bit shocked to be honest. I can only assume the builder didn’t know the T120 well, looking at how the clutch pressure plate wasn’t adjusted properly (pretty elementary) and the restrictive breather…then of course also omitting the crankcase oil seal. That’s sometimes the risk of buying a ‘pretty’ bike. You hope the builder is as familiar and competent with the mechanicals as he is with the spray gun.

    I’ve had similar problems on post the original Lucas company “ genuine” alternators in the green boxes. They were made under license “ offshore” and are nothing like the quality of the ordinal Lucas company alternators. Indeed that’s true for lots of other Lucas products. I had three alternators in a row fail within very few miles. The new classic range in red boxes, while still made offshore, are much better quality. Great videos. From a guy living in Canada who is from near where Dave’s workshop is. Keep the videos coming. Very enjoyable!

    Your wrong about the breather, the engine breathes by going through the main bearing into primary case by putting in a seal you've now eliminated engine breathing.

    Hi Dave, if my memory serves me right the oif engine breathed through the main crancase bearing....and not the camshaft bush....the three small holes on the engine casing is inadequate to breathe. But I don't know if this build has a camshaft bush oil breather. My 72 65o bonneville lacked power till I took out the oil seal from the drive side engine bearing. Just my opinion

    • @sumkunt0r
      @sumkunt0r 4 дня назад

      Yeah my T140 breathed though the primary chain case via 3 little holes in the case and no seal. My T120 had the camshaft timed breather. It was also not uncommon to replace the timing plug hole in the crankcase with a fitting and a breather pipe.

    Put a 750cc Norton Atlas in that frame. Tune it will higher comp pistons, high lift cams, gas flowed head etc. I like alloy fuel tanks, but that’s my preference. Or go all out and put a Vincent engine it.

    somehow i don't think Triumph went to all the trouble of routing the breather to the rear if they could have made do with a five inch stub, i'd at least route it to be a rear chain oiler.

    For those not familiar with high comp singles, note that they had to push the bike back against compression. Not to stall it when trying to start it. Applies both to push start and roller start.

    Whats the point originaly the cooper car co used norton engines in their racing cars.until norton stopped supplying the engines .so cooper bought complete bikes and removed the engines .which meant that owners of rigid and sprung hub triumphs could get a nice new norton at a nock down price and put their old triumph engine in it .making a very nice bike .but why do it with a modern bike i just dont see the point.as there was nothin wrong with norton engines.

  • @jjrider6758

    Looks like a solid, well built bike.. I think I like it but I'm not absolutely certain !.. As Dave says it's a modern take on a classic design and I'm a bit of a traditionalist so it didn't immediately give me the 'wow-factor,' but I do think it would grow on me pretty quickly.. Of course although most Tritons look very similar, superficially at least, they're still very much to the builder's taste !.. I'm not fond of the mag, it looks very vulnerable to me.. Like Dave I'd prefer twin clocks and also a larger headlight and an alloy cover on the rear hub to balance it with the look of the front brake plate.. The insulation on the alternator stator being all shattered and flaking was a bit concerning to say the least, it would be good to know what caused that to happen..

    That Hunt magneto (or copy of) is ok for intended purpose, American oval racing because they only go around left hand bends. Too many scenarios where it could be damaged and possibly damage other parts on a road bike

    Looking at the bubba work on the crankcase alone it would appear that these are 2 miss matching halves, not sure how BSA machine crankcases but normal practice would be to machine them as a pair, and these 2 halves are not a pair, so the likelihood of the crank bearings being in line are remote, the mating spigot being broken suggests that that was broken off when the 2 miss matched halves were put together, in any case a new crankcase is required as these 2 will never be any good, relying as they do on the bolts to keep them as a unit, the customer needs to consult Citizens Advice for what action to take against the seller, there is ample evidence that fraud has taken place here, and a well documented report would bring about legal action against the seller. Fun thing about finned Shadow brake drums. Now they are actually a few quids cheaper than the plain ones. But harder to fit the chain wheel on. As usual no mention of the Comet. A grossly underestimated touring bike, decent with modern speed limits. Only difference I feel when riding a Comet or a Shadow is when twisting the throttle. And easier to start a Comet if you are lightweight.
